Ask The When I Grow Up Coach How the heck do I do all this stuff
Ask The When I Grow Up Coach How the heck do I do all this stuff Be a Legend In Your Own Mind by TheTwitterpatedToad Itâs another installment of  Ask the When I Grow Up Coach! Each week or so, I pick one of  the questions that have been posed to feature here, until there are no questions left! Disclaimer: A few of the questions that have been posted are from other coaches or would-be coaches. While Iâm absolutely happy to share my story and offer any advice I have on being a coach, Iâm only gonna post the questions that can be applied more universally. Hope thatâs helpful! Oh, this question couldnât have come at a better time, as I wanted to make this week Help Week! Michelle Berlin asked: âHow the heck do you do all of this stuff? Do you ever sleep? You have such an amazing amount of things available! I am impressed and thankful!â Iâm so glad, Michelle â" but I promise I ainât superwoman! Later this week Iâll give ya a rundown of all the different programs and people I rely on to make When I Grow Up tick, but hereâs what makes a difference overall: Getting a full nightâs sleep and then some. Yes, I am a 33 year old woman, but I think my body sometimes still mistakes me for the 16 year old I once was! Iâve been known to sleep for 10+ hours at a time when I can â" my husband consistently wakes me up on Saturdays at 11a or later â" and so I absolutely couldnât do all I do without a full nightâs sleep. Shuttinâ it down at a normal hour. Honestly, despite my best efforts to work âas long as I have toâ or have âa really late nightâ, my brain shuts off around 11p (at the latest) and pretty much forces me to stop working, as it refuses to put sentences together after that time! I never fight it, as it makes for sloppy work and a cranky me. I usually realize that whatever Iâm working on that late is pre-emptive (or is a âshouldâ!) and that it can wait âtil tomorrow. Keepinâ my social time. As an extrovert who thrives on time with others, I never cut myself off for long stretches of time without interaction. While Iâm with clients 4 nights a week, the other nights are reserved for my family, my friends, or self-care. Itâs the way I relax, unwind, and recharge my batteries, so I make sure to never keep myself by myself for a week or more at a time. Taking one full day off each week. Itâs so easy to work 7 days a week as an entrepreneur with a home office, as you never stray from your work station and you make your own hours. I know every Saturday is a full day off, and that allows me to claim it for my own and do what I want/need with it. And yes, those are the days that sleeping past 11a is encouraged ?? Collaborating long-term with perfect partners. I absolutely feel like I stepped in s*** when I decided to pair up with Jessica Swift to work on The Declaration of You. I know we can have our weekly meeting, decide what needs to happen and whoâs gonna do it, and not only will the work get done but happen in a way that works well for both of us. Thereâs such mutual respect, work styles and ideas/perspectives that we never have to worry about the other one slacking or offending each other. Yup â" she completes me. Be really self-motivated. Iâm not one to sleep much past 8:30a on a weekday, and I rarely stray from my work before 7p. I remember my husband would be shocked when coming home from work when I was first a full-time entrepreneur, as heâd turn on the TV at 9p and itâd still be on the same channel he was watching when he left for work 12 hours earlier. He couldnât believe I wasnât watching it during the day! And just the other week my Mom remarked to someone else, âEvery time I call Michelle sheâs actually working! Even though she works in her house!â It blows her mind, which is so funny to me. So, I rarely get distracted and tend to work a good 50-60 hours each week. Have ridiculously supportive friends and family. While I still do my best to stay in touch regularly with my family and friends, sometimes calls and/or emails donât get returned which a quick turn-around, or I have to cancel plans that were previously made. Thankfully Iâm surrounded by those that cut me some slack and love me in spite of those flaws, and they make it easy on me. Just doing it. Oh sure, I can come up with excuses and hem and haw with the best of em. But I would say that it actually stops me, oh, 0% of the time simply because theres always something to do, so I go where my energy/excitement/deadlines live at that time. Im actually writing this post almost a week before its gonna go up, so while its not pressing, whats the difference if I write in now or 6 days from now? Either way, its gotta get done, so I do it when I wanna. Theres always something in motion here when its work time. So, itâs simply a matter of doinâ the work, recharging my batteries, gettingâ some sleep, and having amazeballs partners, family members and friends. No kryptonite required, I promise! ********************************************************************************************************
